Liverpool FC - Premier League Title Celebration Without Supporters Sucks

'They are privileged to play for you' - it is one of the most known Bill Shankly quotes about the relationship between Liverpool FC players and supporters - or how it should be.

After a historic win 5:3 against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday, 22 July 2020, the Premier League trophy was officially raised... after 30 years - to the empty stadium. It felt sour. It should have been an iconic moment for the club, it turned ironic.

The supporters are promised an official celebration but with the current climate and policies, this looks like in some months (years?) time. It will, of course, lose momentum.

At least, on this historic occasion let's commemorate the football in Liverpool, before lockdowns, distancing and masks - from previous years.

In the city centre, there are two main places where LFC fans launch their rave before important matches: Ranelagh Street, around Liverpool Central station, and Concert Square in the nearby Ropewalks. Remember to know the words 'You’ll Never Walk Alone', and do not wear anything blue.

The traditional terraced houses in many Liverpool districts have been adorned with the Liverpool FC emblems for some time now.

“At a football club, there’s a holy trinity – the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques” - this is another of Bill Shankly quotes.
Certainly, football without supporters is a sad story to experience.

Yet, these grim times have shown that it is possible to play the matches with no supporters and even to celebrate the grand finale of the season with no real cheers of thousands of people...

Meanwhile, the story of love is marked by the murals appearing on the walls in the city centre and around Anfield.

'I'm just one of the people who stand on the Kop. They think the same as I do, and I think the same as they do. It's a kind of marriage of people who like each other.' - Bill Shankly, once again.

The marriage, for now, is in a separation mode.
