The College Of Psychic Studies - London

Image
What an experience! We had a chance to explore the whole building of th e College of Psychic Studies in London. A place dedicated to the exploration of consciousness since late 19thcentury, continuously - the oldest of its kind in the whole world! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle  (known for his iconic  Sherlock Holmes stories) himself was the most prominent president here, for several years.  For the two of the Summer months, the members and the public could visit and explore this majestic place, looking at the rich exhibition, entitled Strange Things Among Us . But first - as we visited first time here - the amount of the bookish volume at the reception room - was even to us - jaw-dropping. The topics - all occult, paranormal, spiritual.  We could had spend hours in that great library! Before us, however, were more rooms, 13 or 14 of them, and nooks and crannies - to discover.  One of the first: the Presidents Office where  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle  himself wor...

Megalithic Structures mind-blowing mystery

Image
The mysterious massive polygonal stonework , best known from Peru, seem to be more common than we previously thought. More similar sites are being discovered around the world and - what is more surprising - they are in plain site but hardly noticed . One of such brilliant sites was presented by Hugh Newman , researcher and broadcaster, owner of the MegalithomaniaUK project: The other great researcher, traveller and author on the subject of megaliths is Brien Foerster whose work is documented on his You Tube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/brienfoerster And here is a summary of his work: The research is not in line with what most of the academic world thinks and publishes.  The independent researchers pinpoint to the fact that those structures could not have been cut out by Bronze Age hand tools. Clearly these mysterious archaic structures were not ancient tombs of the civilisations of Egypt, Peru, Mexico or others, they were adapted by those cultures for their purp...

Wigan - world famous in Orwell's book

Image
Let's have a look. Visiting small local towns over time gets you the sense how they have changed - for better or worse - and how the times changed, overall. We first visited Wigan in the 2009, and these was an era of the years of New Labour government in the UK so the Northern towns and cities got a boost of money with many redevelopments. The Face of Wigan sculpture was a symbol of those changes in and around Greater Manchester . DW STADIUM We started our second trip to Wigan at the all-important stadium - home of Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan Warriors RLFC , football and rugby teams, that make the fame for the local name. As you can see from the architecture - it has been completed in the era of the New Labour as well, in the 1999. The opening ceremony was held by no other than sir Alex Ferguson , Manchester United most successful. The statue is of Dave Whelan,  the former Wigan Athletic owner, unveiled in 2016, three years after they won the FA Cup . From the stadium we headed...

London Tower Hill and Tower Bridge

Image
Another visit to London for training reasons had been arranged in the new headquarter of our company. It happened to be just around another tourist's hot-spot .  A quick walk along the Tower Hill strikes with places rich in power and the past. This is the most important area not only in London's history but the whole of the British Isles. Tower of London view from the north side Among the many royal palaces and castles on the British soil, the Tower of London is a symbol of British history .  Surviving from the earliest moment of the Norman conquest in 11th century , its layout has been established by the 13th century and remained largely intact. Tower Hill Underground Station Most of all, it is a symbol of the Norman   ruling class that invaded Anglo-Saxon Britain a thousands years ago, that built castles and palaces and had been granted privileges and land.  The remains of this rule and a social divide are still present in the British society.  The a...

European Super Football League into the bin!

Image
What a heck of a mess it was! An idea that couldn't work. The response was immediate, widespread, fierce and unforgiving. European Super League - football games for the biggest and richest clubs in Europe supposed to be an elite league from where no one would be relegated or be promoted to... It would undermine the sense of the existence of national leagues such as a Premier League in England.  Fifteen "founding clubs" signed to it. Their 'greedy owners' , to be exact. They had fallen under absolute criticism from every possible side: UEFA, FIFA, football pundits, players, coaches and managers, politicians, and in a superb outrage - the fans and supporters.  'The Super League would kill the spirit of football in which competition and the pursuit of sporting success are the absolute basis .' - we could hear from everywhere. Liverpool FC fan clubs announced the withdrawal of the support for the club.  In front of the Anfield stadium , there were placar...

Covid lockdown eases - Pubs are open! (only outside) and shops too :)

Image
That day had to finally come. The government's plan to unfreeze the economy is entering the next phase. A moment to remember ;)   Restaurants and pubs (serving food and alcohol to customers sitting only outdoors) were gradually preparing for re-opening. It was a curious pleasure to take off the lockdown pressure, on 12th of April 2021 , and to take a walk around Liverpool old town. On Tithebarn Street , thirsty customers were welcomed in the old/new Kitty's Showbar, the old Shenanigans, and the Railway (above). The tables were set up in accordance with the recommendations - two metres apart . We caught the ceremonial measurement moment (above). Little pubs did just about anything to have an outdoor seating area. Chairs and benches outside, temporary fences and barriers marking the area of a makeshift beer garden. The premises located in Williamson Square (above) boast an interesting solution. They grabbed a large part of the square for their activities. All fenced off , bu...
