Peaceful Autumn Beach

A few years back, while living inland, we were both humming a verse: 'We want to be at the seaside.' A few years on and we started to enjoy it as a fact.

We landed with our belongings near Crosby Beach that stretches for 3 miles. It begins in Waterloo at the Crosby Marine Park, adjacent to the Seaforth Dock, part of the Port of Liverpool. It is the location of Antony Gormley's Another Place. Locally, the figures are simply called Iron Men

The Marine Park also contains two large lakes, a stretch of fields of protected natural wildlife, sand dunes.

The beach has been stabilised from the mid 19th century onwards. The high sea tides are a constant coastal problem.

There is a bit of history around, a note of the Marconi Wireless Station in Waterloo, and nearby Lathom Hall, a place where the Beatles performed often before the fame, and where they got their final name.

It was a calm November walk, the beach remotely peaceful; in a local shop, we got some edible chestnuts, a fine end to a cushy evening.
