A Merry LITTLE X-Mas in Liverpool, while Covid is outside

It was a downtrodden Covid year many would like to forget, and the Christmas of 2020 was nearly cancelled almost in every corner of the world. There were less festive lights outside people's homes than in yesteryears, we would bet. But still, some had been determined to put on a massive Christmas display.

Christmas shopping was hardly entertaining time; with a mask on your face, you want to do the shopping business as quick as possible. And even window shopping was cancelled in many areas. Luckily Liverpool got into the Tier 2 which allowing non-essential shops to open.

Albert Dock looked pretty but spiritless, without merry crowds to go around. Certainly, many did not invest in the festive lights. What for, if you cannot attract people willing to spend time and money?

Even the water in Salthouse Dock was so still like we have never seen before. A standstill in a lockdown.

To be honest, the crowds in Liverpool before Christmas were huuuge. We just don't want to show it. It would be quite inappropriate.

We have caught the erection of the Liverpool One Christmas Tree and were happy to see many pubs, bars and restaurants operating.

Some of the Christmas trees around the city were a bit meagre and sparing, especially the one on the Edge Lane Retail Park. It has such a sad look that we decided not to shop around. Silly, of course, but this is part of the tradition of the season - to indulge your eyesight in the magnificence of colours. Or be inspired by modern designs, like the bottom two.

We popped into the most lively area of local Liverpool, usually, Williamson Square, but not this time. Very quiet, eerie feeling.

To top this preliminary misery, there was a Santa travelling around some residential areas, uttering his 'HO! HO! HO! call-out. Normally, there would be a bunch of kids surrounding and following him with exclamations of joy, but not this time, no.

The outside experience in the coming-up Christmas-Yule season was a total humbug.

So, we decided to make our own preparations and make it special as much as possible. Our Santa brought a lot of sweets, a variety of food...

... more than-ever decorations, great personal gifts...

... and the New Year Feast in a safe couple-bubble.

If not happy, at least better than 2020, the new year of 2021 - to all of us!
