Anfield Stadium - walk around
A walk around the now-expanding Anfield Stadium can be exciting, especially before a Champions League fixture.
We start our walk from Anfield Road towards the stadium.
There were more passers-by on this day, not necessarily with an admission ticket (its hard to get one, you must be very lucky). Demand is far greater than availability. There is no indication that it will change soon :( even with the expanded Anfield Road stand.
Anyway, the area around the stadium is much better than 15 years ago, yet there are places that still needs revitalization. Abandoned terraced houses are haunting, with youngster hanging around. The neighbourhood, neglected for years, will not look beautiful overnight.
However, it is worth paying attention to a few elements in the area. As you walk along Anfield Road, there are several buildings to note:
Epstein House - the former home of the legendary Beatles manager, Brian Epstein.
Brian’s grandparents, Isaac and Dinah Epstein, lived at the house for over 20 years. Brian’s father, Harry, grew up in the house, and Brian was a frequent guest as a young child when his parents Harry and Queenie visited Brian’s grandparents many times.
Liverpool FC murals.
Paisley Square - outside the club shop on the Kop and the Main Stand corner.
You will see John Houlding statue. He was the founder of Liverpool Football Club.
Anfield Forever - a walkway of engraved stones, personalised by Reds fans across the globe.
The Hillsborough Memorial Anfield - adjacent to 97 Avenue.
Goodison Park of Everton FC - in the distance, just across the park.
Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and - of course - You'll Never Walk Alone - Shankly Gates.
Just across the street there is Stanley House - home of John Houlding, LFC founder.
Nearby is the famous Arkles Pub - popular with football supporters, especially away fans, before and after the match.
The Sandon pub is famed as the birthplace of both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs.
The Park Pub at the foot of Anfield Stadium.
The Albert Pub - waiting for a new owner?
Bob Paisley Gateway and Bill Shankly Statue.
Let's catch the bus and get off here...
