Stories happened here...  Sławików Palace Present  Situated on an a prominent hill, at the nearby Odra River, the place has been inhabited since 13th century. Quite something for a village. In 1241, the lands in Sławików were invaded by the Mongols. The entire village was set on fire along with the church of St. George. The church bell rang until collapse of the church tower. Upon hitting the ground, the bell broke in half. The ringing of the bell warned the inhabitants of Racibórz against the Mongol attack. 'Refugees Welcome Here' in Liverpool

Image
After a recent outbreak   of hate  in  Knowsley, part of metropolitan Liverpool -  towards people coming to the UK to seek support and refuge - h undreds of Liverpooldians gathered on the plateau in front of St George's Hall (mid February 2023). This place has seen many gatherings - starting with workers rights and the Suffragettes in the early 1900s.   This time - showing the stance against racial prejudice and support for those who need to flee their homes because of the unfair, unjust and harmful politics - the asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. The protest was an answer to the infamous riots outside the Suites Hotel in the Knowsley area of the city on February 10, widely reported on national TV.   We do not know the details but it appears that some groups feel disadvantaged to the presence of foreign people living in a hotel while the folks living around Merseyside struggle to have the ends meet.  In some ways  - it ...

River of Light 2022 - Liverpool

Image
The River of Light - Liverpool Waterfront (21 October to 6 November 2022) In continental Europe, there is growing fear of power cuts before the upcoming winter and cities and towns are looking to save money on the street and  Christmas lights.  In Liverpool - quite the contrary. The outdoor illuminated gallery on Liverpool Waterfront returned - with a full glow. With more lights and illuminations than before.  There were ten artworks across a two kilometres loop, that featured light and sound installations from local, national and international artists. It was crowded, noisy and very cheerful. The interest of visitors probably exceeded the expectations of the organizers. A very successful event.  Proof, that - in times of the announced and impending crisis, inflation and budget cuts, Liverpool knows how to spend public money :-). The city has always been standing out in a sort of rebellious way - 'No one will tell us what to do and how to behave'.  Here - live ...
